Public Libraries Victoria’s (PLV) Special Interest Groups (SIGs) provide forums for the discussion of specialist services and issues faced by our libraries and communities, allowing us to strengthen the industry and individual libraries through collaboration, networking and the sharing of information and best practice. Collaboration through the SIGs supports the delivery of cost-effective, efficient and quality library services and programs for the Victorian community.
With membership open to all library staff, SIGs provide a highly efficient mechanism for professional development and leadership training in the public library sector. Meeting online enables participation from across the state and there is a high level of engagement by library staff in rural and regional services in the various SIGs.
PLV has SIGs in the areas of:
•Children’s and Youth Services
•Local Studies
•Collections
•Multicultural Services & Programs
•Home Library Services
•Programs and partnerships
•ICT
•Reader Development
•Marketing, Advocacy & Engagement
•Resource Sharing
•Library Operations
•Sustainability
SIGs are convened by library staff, with these convenors elected by the members. SIG convenors are supported by the PLV Project Officer and a mentor from the Executive Committee.
The SIGs also initiate, manage and deliver a broad range of statewide projects:
Big Summer Read (Children & Youth Services)
Warm Winter Read (Reader Development)
Return Yourself to the Library (Marketing, Advocacy and Engagement)
Early Years Handbook for Public Libraries (Children & Youth Services)
Love Your Library in Your Language (Multicultural Services and Programs)
