Introducing the ground-breaking Public Libraries Victoria Sustainability Portal; a portal designed to empower libraries and communities to engage in sustainability efforts while advancing an understanding of United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The goals are designed to address a wide range of global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, peace and justice. The SDGs aim to create a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous world by 2030. Libraries play a significant role in supporting most, if not all, the Sustainable Development Goals.
Developed collaboratively by PLV staff, Sustainability SIG Convenors and web development agency BSO Digital, this portal exemplifies a commitment to several sustainability goals (both Environmental and Social) that Victorian libraries are championing.
You can now discover key Victorian library programs highlighting sustainable practices and use documented case studies to inspire programs in your service.
Explore through the interactive map which searches sustainable initiatives in Victorian public libraries. Initiatives included on the interactive map include Seed Libraries, Library of Things, Community Pantries and Energy Saver Kits just to name a few.
The portal also serves as a comprehensive resource, promoting environmental awareness and action with reference and explanation of the SDGs with relevance to public libraries.
