The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) is seeking support from public libraries to promote a research project on the abuse and mistreatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and/or asexual (LGBTIQA+) older people.

Should you feel comfortable to assist, promotion may involve:

  • Printing this A4 poster to pin up on your notice board/in your office/wherever you see fit
  • Posting and/or promoting social media post (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn post)
  • Posting in your community newsletter outlining the research project and activities – this template may help.

Project overview

The Australian Government, Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) has commissioned and funded the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) to undertake research on the abuse and mistreatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and/or asexual (LGBTIQA+) older people. AIFS has partnered with Queerspace, a division of Drummond Street services, to undertake this project and the research will also be guided by an LGBTIQA+ lived experience advisory panel (LEAP).  Broadly, the project aims to investigate the nature and dynamics of abuse and mistreatment of LGBTIQA+ older people. Research activities

The project’s research activities involve:

  1. Online anonymous survey. All adults aged 18+ who identify as an LGBTIQA+ person are eligible to participate Survey and Participant Information Sheet
